It was a great and welcome news for all Filipinos. Manny made minced meat of Erik.
In Manny, we saw a determination that every Filipino must possess. A steely resolve to get things done despite of everything. It was a fervent proclamation of the fact that the abilities of any individual could amount to something, good or great, if only a resolute attentiveness to the task at hand was administered.
The folly of the Filipino penchant to ride on other's success was very apparent in that glorious moment of victory. Politicians of every make and size were quick to take advantage of the triumph, most probably out of want to ride on the positive effects that winning afforded. These people were there to get mileage for themselves, knowing all too fully, that, fallacious it may seem, they stand to gain so much by associating with the one person who did all the hard work without putting in a single effort on their own.
Sad as it may be, this is how we are. We see it everyday, transpiring as soon as the cock crows in the morning lasting till the crickets chirped their last for the night.
Now that victory had been achieved, the effects of which I truly feel will immediately be lost on many in a blink, most of us will revert back to our usual, despicable ways. Each to his own. Bickering all about. Grandstanding amounting to nothing.
If only we had long-term memories. Long enough to make them a beacon for our confused and directionless state.
